Strong to Severe Storms Possible Sunday.

⛈️ Severe Weather Update: There is a risk of strong to severe storms across parts of Central and Eastern North Carolina tomorrow; the Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 2/5 risk for most of Central and Eastern NC. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the state in the afternoon and evening.

WHAT: A cold front will approach the state on Sunday; the combination of CAPE values 2000-2500 J/kg and 20-30kt wind shear will support the development of strong to potentially severe storms Sunday afternoon and evening.

🚨: The main threat will be a couple of strong to potentially severe storms across Central/Eastern NC tomorrow afternoon and evening. The main threat will be damaging winds, and perhaps some large hail, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding can't be ruled out with some storms. Wind shear tomorrow is mostly directional and does not support a tornado threat, but can't completely rule out an isolated spin-up tornado. The main concern on Sunday will be gusty to damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

⏰ : Showers and thunderstorms will be greatest from 2-10PM with any severe threat ending by late evening.

The Bottom Line: A cold front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the state, with a few strong to severe storms possible across Central/Eastern NC in the afternoon and evening. Nothing to freak out about, but have a way to get warnings in the afternoon and evening tomorrow. I'll keep you updated as usual, too with radar updates that are needed.
